Il le connait dans tous les plus petits détails, aime le bichonner, l’astiquer, le porter, l’exposer, le conduire, l’utiliser. C’est un objet des plus précieux que j’aime dessiner en prenant le temps d’observer très attentivement les plus fins détails et de représenter tout ce que le collectionneur aimer regarder. J’essaie de lui donner vie. N’est-ce pas le rêve absolu de son propriétaire ? ».

Collectors are very sensitive and passionate about their objects. He knows it in all its smallest details, likes to pamper it, polish it, wear it, exhibit it, drive it, use it. It is a most precious object that I like to draw, taking the time to observe very carefully the finest details and to represent everything that the collector likes to look at. I try to give it life. Première activité vitale de l’humanité au côté de la cueillette, la chasse reste de nos jours un loisir voire une passion. A tir ou à courre, elle obéit à des règles très strictes et à des rituels traditionnels bien connus des équipages. L’amour et le respect de la nature sont des valeurs auxquelles est attaché tout vrai chasseur. En dessinant du petit et du gros gibier, des scènes de chasse à courre ou des chiens de chasse, j’ai le sentiment de m’immerger un instant dans cet univers réservé où l’esthétique surpasse de loin la dureté du coup ».

As one of the first vital activity of mankind, next to food-picking, hunting remains nowadays a widely spread hobby and a passion for many men and women. Shooting or horse riding hunts both obey to strict rules and traditions well known by the crewmembers. But most 
importantly, love and respect of nature are the values that true hunters defend. By drawing small or big game, hunting with hound scenes or hunting dog portraits, I have the feeling for a moment to immerge myself into this so specific atmosphere where beauty 
and greatness surpasses the purpose itself of shooting or tracking down a wild animal ».

« Dessiner un portrait est difficile car pour le réussir il faut être capable de représenter sur le papier quelque chose d’éminemment immatériel, ce que la personne a d’unique et de plus vivant : son regard. Les bons traits de crayon sont ceux qui parviennent à faire ressortir les traits du caractère et la personnalité. Un magnifique défi auquel je prends beaucoup de plaisir&#38;nbsp;».

Drawing a portrait is difficult because to be successful the drawer has to be able to represent on paper something eminently intangible, something that is unique and most alive: his gaze. Good pencil lines are those that manage to bring out character traits and personality. A magnificent challenge that I really enjoy

Une maison est avant tout une demeure : un lieu de vie habité par l’âme d’une famille qui traverse tous les temps forts de l’existence : un mariage, une naissance, un anniversaire, un deuil. C’est un lieu chargé des souvenirs qui constituent l’histoire d’une famille. Voilà pourquoi on y est tant attaché. En dessinant une propriété de famille, un intérieur, du château à la simple maison, je sais que des personnes vont revivre ces moments, parfois avec nostalgie, d’autrefois avec une joie immense, chaque fois avec émotion ».

A house is full of life. It incarnates the soul of the family who lives in it. Always standing by your side, through the generations and the milestones of life: weddings, births, anniversaries, but also loss. It is a place full of memories without whom you cannot build a family history and traditions. All this explains why we are often so attached to it. By drawing a family property, a castle, a mansion, a farm or a simple house, I can imagine the emotions that can result by watching at it from one of its owner or inhabitants

Longtemps exploité pour l’art de la guerre et la culture de la terre, le voilà aujourd’hui objet d’intérêt, d’attention et d’affection. Du poulain à l’étalon, dresseurs, écuries et jockeys ambitionnent de faire de lui un champion de sauts d’obstacles ou de courses hippiques. Compagnon docile et fidèle, il est capable de danser avec un cadre noir de Saumur, de défiler avec un garde républicain, de courir en forêt avec un équipage de vènerie et de faire le plaisir d’innombrables cavaliers amateurs ou professionnels qui ont fait de lui un véritable ami. Je ne dessine jamais la gueule du cheval mais bien sa tête, en veillant à retracer son regard doux, sa puissance musculaire, son élégance ».

«
Historically used for martial and agricultural purposes, today horses are centers of interests, special attention and affection. From foals to stallions, horse breeders, trainers, jockeys and 
stables expect to make champions out of them. Docile, brave and faithful companion, the horse is capable to dance at the “Cadre Noir” of Saumur, to parade with the Republican Guard, to run besides packs of dogs in forest and please many horse riders, both 
amateurs or professionals, young and old. When drawing a horse, I try to keep as much as possible the softness of its gaze, its muscularly power and its elegancy. Furthermore, as my first name is Philippe, and the Greek roots of this name means “who 
likes horses”, I do enjoy drawing them

	Biographie

	VIALIS (Philippe LAURENT) naît à Lyon en 1963. Si son père ingénieur aime la précisiontechnique, sa mère Thérèse Dugas-Vialis est artiste jusqu’au bout des doigts : héritière de son père adoré, Robert Dugas-Vialis, artiste peintre de métier ; héritière aussi de son grand-père, Louis Dugas-Vialis, artiste sculpteur de métier.Petit, Vialis aime la précision du trait et passe des heures à reproduire des tableaux de maitre. Mise entre parenthèses pendant ses 6 années de vie monastique (entre 18 et 24 ans) et ses 25 années de père de famille engagé dans l’industrie ferroviaire, cette passion n’a de place qu’en tant que hobby.&#38;nbsp;
Depuis 2017 et tout spécialement depuis le début de la crise sanitaire en mars 2020, l’augmentation de son&#38;nbsp;temps disponible&#38;nbsp;lui offre l’opportunité&#38;nbsp;de promouvoir&#38;nbsp;sa passion du rang de hobby à celui de métier.


« Je dessine en prenant le temps d’observer mon objet avec précision, dans ses contours et dans ses valeurs. Sans doute influencé par la philosophie chinoise des petits pas, je progresse patiemment à coups de traits jusqu’au moment magique où apparait le réel. Comme si j’avais contribué à sa recréation&#38;nbsp;».

	Biography

	
VIALIS (Philippe LAURENT) was born in Lyon, France, in 1963.&#38;nbsp;His father was a meticulous engineer and his mother, Thérèse Dugas-Vialis, was a true artist, whose gift was transmitted over the generations by her beloved father, Robert Dugas-Vialis, professional painter himself, and his father before him, Louis Dugas-Vialis, professional sculptor.
Very young, Vialis appreciates the precision of lines and spend hours reproducing masters paintings. After 6 years as a monk (between 18 and 24 y.o) and 25 years as a father of four working in the railway industry, his passion was contained and became only a hobby.

But since 2017, and even more since the beginning of the health crisis of COVID-19 in March 2020, as his free time increased, he ceased the opportunity to take back his hobby / forgotten passion and chose it to become his daily job.


“When I draw, the first thing I do is to take time to observe my object’s shape and shades with attention. As a former Chinese resident and still fluent speaker, the “little step by little step” philosophy (一步一步哲学) invites me to progress on my drawings patiently, lines after lines, until the magic happens and life appears.
